The latest 2026 version of the 3 series by BMW, both combustion 3 series and electric i3 (1)

My ears say 3, but my eyes say i3!

I just came to a realisation that a tiny change in proportions can change perception so deeply!

I saw the launch of the new 3 series last week, and instantly felt, oh, the proportions of the combustion model are so off! Turns out, I was not wrong.

The new combustion 3 series, shares the platform with the outgoing 3 series, while the electric one, the i3, is more in tune with the M3 prototype with the Neue Klasse design.

That was a mouthful.

The combustion model's wheelbase, the front overhang, the bonnet, and just the way the cabin sits in relation to the front angle... just feels off on so many fronts.

Almost feels disproportionate!

All of this came from the video I was watching of the launch by Carwow. Weirdly enough, towards the end, Matt and his team showcased the electric M3. It took not more than a split second for me to get excited about car design again!

That made me realise, this is very weird for me because usually I am not really appreciative of the EV designs but, that the electric M3 stood out to me even more!

So, that makes me question. Or rather have this wild take that EVs... maybe will be made more exciting, to look at at least, than the combustion engines as a reverse pshycology to get you to buy them?

I mean, it really worked with the Rimac Concept One and Nevera! So will that finally then push towards the roads being dominated by cars that look absolutely stunning like the electric M3, BYD Seal, or the AMG GT 4-Door EV Coupé?

I'm telling you, the hesitation to shift might become a little harder if this continues!
