A random reel the other day made me fall in love all over again with the mechanical sounds of machines.
So I did what I thought was best... made a compilation of what I think are some of automobile industry's best, or rather, most iconic sounds.
Right from the 'stututu' of the turbos all the way to the 'Pshhhh' when the air brake in a bus or truck is released, these sounds take us back to a memory that perhaps all of us have experienced at least once in our lives.
Sure, there are other sounds that are debatable such as the V12 and V10 engines...
Some say Ferrari's have the best V12, some say the McLaren F1. Some say the LFA has the best V10, some say the Carrera GT.
I mean... I honestly feel the Ferrari 812 Competizione is the best sounding V12 and the LFA is the best V10. I can already hear the Enzo and LaFerrari fans rushing towards me to bash me for the blasphemy, but hey those are subjective sounds! Tell me I'm wrong?
But I don't think the ones here, the ones in this compilation have much room for debate. They are just iconic... Think about it, how can you debate the stututu? Is there a better alternate? The same applies to the whine of the supercharger, same for the Y2K startup - which is unheard of in the bike world today! And the straight cut gears, the gated shifter, the air brake sound... yeah, no chance.
I will give you this, though! If you think I missed any sounds that are possibly iconic in their own way, without a debate, send them to me... I'll add them and thank you for your submission!
